Let’s talk about one of my favorite raw food ingredients: Herbs!

On a standard American diet, we tend to become fixated on the tastes of refined sugar, fried food, and salt. This distorts and overstimulates the taste buds. Over time, we not only wind up losing our taste of healthy flavors, but we also gorge ourselves on deadly cuisine in doing so.

Fresh herbs are a wonderful way to restore your palate and your health. Boasting many medicinal properties, herbs are, in my opinion, a must on a long-term successful raw food diet. Herbs reduce inflammation and swelling, have anti-aging properties, and are rich in antioxidants.

Think about what you invite into your mouth and body. YES, the fried, sugary, salty foods promoted left and right will provide temporary pleasure on your tongue, but once you swallow them, they proceed to wreak havoc on your health. Worth it? NO! In stark contrast, fresh herbs make your meals delicious AND enrich your health. Total win!

My favorite herbs are celery, basil, and cilantro. For example, on ONE salad of mine, I might mince up an entire bunch of cilantro and dice up 4-5 stalks of celery! My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

You can also make delectable chop bowls, where you simply toss together a bunch of fresh raw fruits and veggies, herbs, and citrus juice for a nutrient-dense, light, and deliciously filling meal.

Grow your own herbs at home or pick them up at the local market. Just get those herbs in you! Your body will thank you.
