Raw Vegan Fusion: Broccoli Cauliflower with Avocado Sauce
Raw Vegan Fusion: Broccoli Cauliflower with Avocado Sauce
I am often asked two common raw food questions and thought it would be great to address them here today.
1) Do I have to eat things like raw broccoli, because I don’t like gnawing on raw broccoli!
2) What do you do when it’s cold out? I would be afraid of eating all cold food during winter months.
Here’s a little raw vegan secret. You don’t have to be 100% raw 365 days of the year in order to reap the benefits of a healthy plant-based diet.
Consider this: If the choice is never eating broccoli again because you hate it raw, (thereby getting ZERO percent of its nutrients) or lightly steaming it and eating it regularly, which would you choose? Yes, heating food above 118F starts to cause it to drop in nutritional value, especially when it comes to antioxidants like vitamin C. But if you are eating ample quantities of raw fruits and vegetables in other contexts, it will balance out.
Too many raw vegans get caught up in dogma and wind up eating tons of coconut oil, nuts, agave, and and other fatty or processed foods when what they need to remember is to keep the focus on simple plants. Occasional light steaming is not going to transform your food into poison.
Here’s a wonderful example of my Raw Vegan Fusion cuisine, where I have taken lightly steamed cauliflower and broccoli, then topped it with raw diced tomato, avocado sauce, and minced fresh herbs. Divinely delicious! The best of both worlds.
When you mix raw and lightly cooked plants, you’re given a touch more flexibility in terms of culinary technique and texture. And if that keeps you on your vegan diet instead of falling off the wagon and returning to unhealthy foods, then it makes good sense.
Be gentle with yourself, love yourself, and keep moving forward knowing you are FULLY supported by me!
